York 32-1503 Electric Starter Kit for 1954-1957 Harley-Davidson FL

York electric start kit is designed exclusively for rigid frame 4 speed models with a splined motor shaft in a generator type motor Knucklehead Flathead Panhead or Shovelhead model.

The York 32-1503 Electric Starter Kit is designed for 1954, 1955, 1956, and 1957 Harley-Davidson FL applications. The kit uses a starter motor mounted to a cast steel housing attached to the transmission mount plate, allowing the starter to drive the starter ring gear on the rear of the clutch hub. A 9-tooth pinion gear is used on the starter drive, and the motor sprocket is offset 1/2 inch for this installation arrangement.

Installation requires a shorter oil tank and includes an oil tank base plate to provide clearance for the starter motor. The original wrap-around oil tank may also be modified by removing the rear bracket and rewelding it in a raised position. The rear fender and tin inner primary require modification for installation. York recommends using the applicable short oil tank and inner primary for the application. A 84-link primary chain is included because the chain tensioner assembly requires the longer chain.

The primary chain tensioner mounts to the two rear motor-mount bolts for a secure installation. The kit includes a splined motor sprocket and spacer. The required battery is an Anti Gravity 12 Volt 16 Cell battery, and the starter spring retainer washer is available separately.
