V-Twin 78647A XL York Electric Start Kit

Electric starter kit includes a 1.4kw compact starter with integral Bendix solenoid and gear reduction. Kit also includes mount plate and 2 gauge cable set.

The V-Twin 78647A XL York Electric Start Kit features a natural-finish starter and starter housing designed to bolt directly to the original starter drive port. The starter motor accepts a direct push button, and the kit includes mounting bolts for attaching the alloy mount plate: two 5/16-inch x 18 hex bolts with washers.

Installation requires two M5.08 x 2-inch countersunk flathead screws. Clearance must be checked between the sprocket cover, oil tank, and battery tray, as well as around the clutch drum, motor case, sprocket case, and rear cylinder. The clutch drum must have a 62-tooth ring gear installed; the required 62-tooth clutch drum with starter ring gear welded on is available separately as V-Twin part 18-3640. Existing clutch drums must have the OEM ring gear welded in place.

The V-Twin 78647A kit fits 1967-1976 Harley-Davidson XL models listed by the manufacturer. Installation may require a die grinder or 4-inch Makita-type disc grinder. The starter button may be used with a starter button relay, and the remote starter button should be installed before installation.
