V-Twin 74478D V-Fire Overhead Valve Auto Advance Distributor Chrome

V-Fire auto advance distributor features a chrome body and top. Distributor is completely assembled with gear and all internal parts and features a two bolt flange. This is single point type with updated timing marks.

The V-Twin 74478D V-Fire Overhead Valve Auto Advance Distributor Chrome is designed for overhead-valve Big Twin models. This distributor features automatic advance and can be used to upgrade an existing ignition system or as part of a ground-up build. It eliminates the need for a left-hand spark advance control, allowing use of a snap throttle on the handlebar.

Installation requires removal of the front cylinder head. The points lead wire is not included and should exit through the slot in the distributor base, positioned toward the rear of the motorcycle. The updated points plate allows the wire to exit toward the rear. A hole in the plate can help with setting advance during timing. Points are positioned on the front side for easier adjustment; both cam lobes should open and close the points, with the skinny lobe timing the front cylinder. Refer to the service manual, as there is no mark on the cam, and timing must be set at cylinder top dead center.

Replacement ignition advance rotor and points plate assemblies, distributor lead wire, mount screw sets, advance points plates, and other related components are available separately. Suggested related components include V-Twin #32-7797 Ignition Advance with Points Plate Assembly, #42-0340 Chrome Distributor Cover, #8145-10 Chrome Circuit Breaker Screws, #8146-10 Cadmium Circuit Breaker Screws, #9684-10 Parkerized Distributor Screws, and #32-1623 Distributor Lead Wire. The manufacturer recommends updating the points set with #32-0156 Blue Streak Ignition Point Set.
