The Keith Black KB272.STD 883cc Conversion Piston Set features a hypereutectic alloy cast in a permanent steel mold. This construction supports a lightweight piston design intended to help produce more power, improve fuel economy, and promote extended service life. The standard-size pistons are designed for a 3.498-inch bore and feature a 9:1 compression ratio.

The alloy's low heat transfer helps keep the skirts cooler, minimizing piston expansion. Combined with high compression ring placement, the design is intended to increase power and economy while reducing detonation and increasing top ring temperature. This set fits 1986–1995 Harley-Davidson XL applications.

For 2009-and-newer XL 883 cylinders, the cylinders cannot be overbored to 1200cc. These applications require separately purchased 1200cc cylinders for use with the piston kit. During installation, run the engine at moderate speeds for at least 500 miles and avoid excessive operation in lower gears to properly break in the new pistons and rings.
