The Keith Black KB272.005 883cc Conversion Piston Set .005 Oversize is designed for specified Harley-Davidson XL applications from 1986 through 1995. This piston kit features a 3.5-inch bore, 9:1 compression, and compatibility with a 3.812-inch stroke and a dish head, as stated by the manufacturer.

The pistons are alloy cast in a permanent steel mold to provide a lightweight design. The alloy's low heat transfer helps keep the skirts cooler and minimizes piston expansion. The piston set includes a Hastings Moly ring set. Use ring end gap instructions to help avoid ring butting; the second ring end gaps do not require extra clearance.

For proper break-in, run the engine at moderate speeds for at least 500 miles and avoid excessive operation in lower gears. For 2009 and newer XL 883 applications, the existing cylinders cannot be overbored to 1200cc; separate 1200cc cylinders are required for those applications.
